First Steps

Have you just made your very first account on Neopets and are completely new to the Neopets world? This guide will help those who are just new to the world of Neopets because from what I can remember when I started my first account, I was feeling a little overwhelmed and had no idea what I could or should do.. Of course, Neopets has changed a lot since then but I am sure that it would still be hard to understand at first!

Before or while you are reading this guide, you may want to read the "shop toolbar" guide or have it open as a reference!

Create a Pet

Once you have activated your account the first thing that you should do is to create a pet, this is kind of obvious since that is probably the main idea to the game! Anyway, you may not think that this is a really important step but your pet can reflect what kind of person you can be. I suggest taking your time to name and create a pet that you really like because it would just plain mean to abandon it later.

Go through all the pet options, think about what you want to name it [I suggest that you don't use a couple of letters and random numbers - try to make something up that means something to you] and don't worry too much about the colour if you don't like it, you can get paintbrushes to change it later if you really want to!

There is the option of adoption but at this stage you probably don't have the neopoints and would rather have a pet created entirely by you! It might seem like a nice idea to adopt but it doesn't offer you much choice and the choices aren't always that great.. Thus the end result when people don't take time to create the perfect pet.

Newbie Pack

Oooo, goody! A pack named just for you! To claim this small welcome package [which has really come along since I started an account!] you will have to go along to your inventory. This is where you will have gotten some paintbrushes, if you would like to change the colour of your pet, I suggest using one of these since they cannot be sold or traded!

As much as this pack may seem like junk to you [don't worry, you will soon be able to buy some great stuff!] I suggest you save it, it may not seem as though you will ever use it but the strangest things can come in handy and you wont make very many neopoints off it. Plus, you will have a start on getting the pack rat avatar! So don't sell it, save it!

Bank Account

There are many ways in which you can lose your neopoints and there isnt any way of getting them back if your are on the end of a particulary nasty random event! The best way to make sure that your neopoints will be safe is to deposit them into your very own bank account.

To make a bank account you can go to the bank, fill out a form and there you have it, a very safe place to deposit your neopoints! As soon as you start depositing neopoints, you will be able to collect interest. Make sure you raise your account type whenever your neopoints qualify, then you will be able to make even more interest!

Shops

There are two different types of shops, user created and those that are in Neopia Central. The prices of items vary depending on what shop you go to, in Neopia Central, you are able to haggle a better price [just make sure you don't go too low and miss out on the item altogether] and for the user created shops, you will be able to use the Shop Wizard to find the cheapest price.

You are able to create your own shop and make some neopoints along with all the other neopians too. It might cost a fair bit to open and upgrade a shop but usually once you have sold a fair bit of stuff, the profit is worth it! Just keep your prices reasonable and stock your shop regulary.

A shop is also a great way to get rid of items that you don't need and will never use, they usually sell fast - depending on the price!

Games

Playing games are one of the best ways to earn neopoints, especially if you hae a natural talent for them! They present no risk and cost nest to nothing to play [except for luck games] and as long as you send your score each time you play, you will earn plenty of neopoints in time!

Try to play the featured game regulary, it gives you twice the amount of points you would receive otherwise. Sponsor games can also give you plenty of points as well, they tend to be a lot easier! I suggest picking out a few games you like or are good at and play them every time you get on Neopets.

Neoboards & Neomail

The neoboards are like a forum where you can talk to other neopians and neomail is basically email! You can only use these if you 13 years old and didn't lie about your age when you signed up. Make sure that you obey the rules when using the neoboards and don't spam [Short Pointless Annoying Messages] otherwise you might be referred to as a n00b - trust me, that isn't the gretest thing in the world!

You can get all sorts of help from people while chatting on the Neoboards, most people are happy to answer your questions, just make sure you go to the right board! You may also make some neofriends while chatting on the boards, just make sure you don't give away any personal information

Guilds

Once you have settled into the world of Neopia, you may be asked to join a guild or you may just want to be apart of one! I don't suggest making one of your own just yet, people don't always like to join a guild made by a newbie and you probably want to get a bit of knowledge about Neopia first. Wait until you are a few months old and have joined a couple of other guilds first so that you get a feel of how they are run!

Joining a guild is a great way to really get involved in Neopets, make some great friends and really have some FUN! Don't just join one because they offer some really amazing newbie packs or give away some really valuable stuff, that is just rude! Look through the neighbourhoods and find one you may be interested in or post a "guildless" ad on the Neoboards. If you post, you will get a million responses, so do that a couple of times on different days and then narrow down your favourites!

Make sure you look around a guild and are sure you are definitely going to stay for a while, before asking for a newbie pack. Once you join a guild, introduce yourself, check out their webbie if they have one, follow their rules and be active [join competitions, participate, chat!] No one will mind if you leave a guild if it doesn't suit you, just don't have taken any freebies with you..
